Paddington mews homes make excellent investments
What image does the word âPaddingtonâ conjure up for you? A Peruvian bear who loves marmalade? At Lurot Brand, we associate the name âPaddingtonâ with some of the capitalâs most attractive mews streets.
When introducing our clients to the cobbled charm of Junction Mews, the colourful stucco properties of Conduit Mews or the classical architecture of Craven Hill Mews (to name but a few of Paddingtonâs delightful mews streets), they are always amazed to find that such peaceful locations can be found minutes away from one of the capitalâs busiest transport hubs.
Living close to Paddingtonâs mainline station may be convenient, but most residents agree that the immediate area around the station could do with a makeover. With work on Crossrail due to finish here in 2018, Westminster Council has come up with an overall regeneration plan that promises to revamp the station, revitalise the neighbourhood and improve access to Paddington Basin.
The councilâs aim is to ensure that future plans will âsupport the economic and social regeneration of the area, including retail, social and community facilities, entertainment and arts/cultural uses.â A ÂŁ775 million project â recently given the green light by Westminster Councilâs planning officials – will improve the station area, providing a range of new shops, restaurants, cafes and bars and adding a new 14-storey building (nicknamed âThe Cubeâ).
Development partnership Great Western Developments and Sellar Paddington Limited had originally submitted plans for a 72-storey building dubbed âThe Skinny Shardâ, but these plans were rejected due to community concerns over the height of the tower.
The revised and approved scheme now has the backing of Network Rail, TfL, London Underground, Hyde Park Estate Residents Association, Paddington Now Business Improvement District (BID) and Paddington Neighbourhood Forum. Kay Buxton, CEO of Paddington BID, has claimed that the plan will provide a huge boost to local businesses, bringing in thousands of new jobs to the area. She says, âthis proposal will transform Paddington â providing hundreds of millions of pounds of investment that Paddingtonâs front door desperately needs.â
The new station complex will not only make Paddington property a great investment, it will also improve facilities for those living in the mews streets nearby.
